She felt the day around her as vividly as she saw it. Warmth from the dry terrain seeped into her skin and she welcomed it. Each bright color of the water and sky reflected off of her glowing skin. This time alone has been good for her, shown in her smile and how she carries herself.
A breeze lifted the loose parts of her clothing and carried her as she walked to the small, cement building she returned to every night. Hair blew across her eyes and she caught the scent of the salted sea she just came from. Pushing aside the bright blue doors before her, she turned on the water and prepared to cleanse the day off of her. Standing bare in the midst of the world, she thought nothing of it, and continued on in the privacy of her space. The cool water chased its way down her curves, urging to become a part of her like oxygen does with her lungs. She reveled in this moment and appreciated it for everything it was. She watched, hands in her hair and bubbles falling over her, as the day waved goodbye in magnificent hues and she silently said goodbye back, knowing she would see this view again the next day.
Not far, a man walked in the direction of the cement buildings. He was searching for his own, recently returned from sailing the crystal waters. His body felt the lingering kiss from the sun, and his blonde hair sparkled in it, lightened so much so, you could hardly decipher if it was gold or otherwise. His friends wandered into their temporary home as he went around the exterior to place the supplies taken earlier away, as they would need them again soon. The laughter of his companions and clinking of glassware was easily heard through the blue shutters that graced the windows of every building on the island. The clothing line held towels freshly cleaned, and he tore them down one by one. The sight that uncovered before him was one he never thought he’d see again.
She looked so much the same, but more beautiful than even his dreams had made her. He ought to look away, she was clearly unaware he was frozen by the sight of her; but just as he was to look away, she turned to glance over her shoulder. Maybe she was in search of a towel, but she found his gaze instead, and smiled.
