You can feel it in the air! The crisp mornings that turn into warm afternoons, the way the days are shorter and shorter, fall is coming.
Going from Greece where it is sunny and hot everyday to New York fall is quite the adjustment, but one thing that makes it all better is fall fashion. However today, it feels like more than ever that trends are coming and going in the blink of an eye. It’s as if once you see the trend you’re already at least a month behind everyone else’s schedule, and that can be an overwhelming feeling when you’re always trying to simply find your footing when it comes to personal style.
I usually see what is coming out and adopt what works for me, as well as what I can see myself using time and time again, despite the trend or season.
However when each season comes around, all eyes are on what is the hottest thing to wear, even when it’s cold outside, so today we are going to be exploring some of those ideas and making opinions of our own.
I recently read the Vogue article, “13 Fall Trends Vogue Editors Are Adding to Their Carts, ASAP” by Talia Abbas, and I will be using it today as inspiration. I will also be using the same reference photos from the article, so I do not take credit for those in any way!
Let’s agree or disagree, shall we?
The Relaxed Suit

I am a big fan of a suit no matter the occasion. Fitted suits have their moments, but a relaxed suit feels like the ultimate fall getup. I want to look put together AND feel cozy AND be a boss babe at the same time, and an oversized suit might be the ticket for that exact thing.
As a short girl, proportions always matter when it comes to anything, but I think if made correctly I would absolutely love this trend. This is a definite yes from me!
Leopard Print

I never went through the teenage phase where everything was zebra or some other animal print. I’ve honestly always shyed away from prints like this, but as I’ve gotten older I’ve been more curious to explore!
I will say, when I see it on others I usually love how it’s done, but animal prints can also look really tacky when done incorrectly. However I think this particular animal trend is coming in soft, and found more in accessories rather than big statement pieces. So depending on the print and what piece it’s used for, this trend will be a maybe from me, but leaning more towards a yes.
Dark Brown

Dark brown is an obvious fall choice, and a color I’m happy to show off at any point in the year. However fall definitely is browns best time to shine, giving us warm and cozy feels while also being striking and bold when we want it to be. Maybe brown is the new black for colder months?
The editor for this edit mentioned monochromatic looks, which have been in style for a while and I don’t think will be going anywhere, but something as simple as a single color can let you play a lot with textures and other elements that as she says creates “depth” with your looks. I’m inclined to agree, this trend is a huge yes for me!
The Leather Trench

This trend is delicious. I LOVE a good leather piece, especially a versatile piece like a coat or trench. Not to brag but I’ve been sporting the long leather coats for a while, compliments of seeing my mother wear them growing up. You also have a pretty good chance of picking up a great item like this at the thrift store, so without further ado, a million times yes to this trend.
The Cashmire Crewneck

Cashmire has my vote always, but with fall approaching, a cashmire sweater, or crewneck in this case, is a great investment that you can rely on for years to come. Cashmire never goes out of style, just how we use it changes, and a crewneck can be used in a multitude of ways. I’m not a fan of the pictured crewneck, but the internet is full of many options so I think this trend is a big yes.
Track Pants

I have yet to meet a track pant I honestly like, but that’s mainly because track pants are not made to fit body types like mine. Should I find a pant that fits, I’d consider it a win and I’d be curious to see how often I really reach for them. I like to see the ways that people are utilizing this kind of piece in an outfit, but I wouldn’t say I like a lot of them. I’ll consider this a trend a no for me, but a yes for everyone else!
The Mesh Moment

I absolutely love this in theory. In practice I think this would be very out of my comfort zone and I have no idea where I would start with a trend like this. I’ve already seen the mesh trend happening all over TikTok with girl’s GRWM videos and I think they look so chic, so I’d totally hop on this trend if I had an occasion to wear something fun like this or had the right piece.
The Boot-Pant Hybrid

I have a very distant memory, or maybe a dream, that I feel like we’ve seen this before and it was scary…I think this trend has come a long way, but it really depends on how over the top it is. I tend to air on the side of modest and simple for everyday use, but at the same time I’ve seen some very cool ways a unique shoe like this is used. I will say that I don’t see this trend sticking around for long like a leather trench or cashmire sweater might, but trends are all about having fun in the moment right? I think this trend definitely has a time a place, so I’ll give it a maybe for me.
Silk and Lace

More timeless mediums, lace and silk. A great way to add femininity to our fall pieces that can be used in a completely different way than we might use them in warmer months. For someone that lives in the northeast of the U.S., this might be a completely impractical choice for how cold our weather can get, but regardless I love it.
Many are seeing this trend as a way to challenge ourselves to use our clothing all year round, seeing how the pieces of clothing we love throughout the summer can be transitioned to the colder months. This gives our closet new life and we get a new perspective on our own style, as opposed to pieces only having one season and then being packed away for most of the year. That speaks to encouraging sustainability and creativity, which I am all for! Yes from me.
The Draped Top

I’ve seen a lot of drape lately, and I think this can be a great trend for those that want to dress more modestly but also want to add a little flare to their fit. Again, for me it would probably be a proportion thing when it comes to the individual piece, but I’m not very drawn towards the examples of this trend that I’ve seen. I think because I’m so petite, this is one trend that could really overpower my body and drown me. So I’ll say no to this one, but I’m happy to be wrong about it if I find something cute!
The Burgundy Skirt

Do I really need to try and convince anyone about this one? Yes, yes, YES! Burgundy is the ultimate fall to winter color, it never goes out of style and it never will! I’m saying yes to this color every year.
The Suede Jacket

Suede is probably the biggest trend that I’ve seen so far on the internet, and I am heartbroken that I don’t have a gorgeous suede jacket waiting for me in my closet. I haven’t seen a lot of people reaching for suede pieces besides bags, shoes and jackets, and that is where I think I would end my participation with this trend…but I guess a suede skirt could be super cool too. Regardless, this trend is a yes!
The Corduroy Vest

This is another one of those things where I think it looks good on everyone else but me, and I’ve never been super attracted to corduroy on myself anyways. No hate to it at all, I think it’s usually done very well, but I’ll be saying no for myself.
I almost had myself thinking I was gonna say yes to every item on the list…but I gotta say that this years fall trends are really catching my eye!
How are we enjoying fashion content here on the blog? I wouldn’t consider myself a fashion professional by any means, but fashion is something that I enjoy interacting with! I have yet to find a groove with fashion content here, so I’m always open to suggestions!
What fall trends are you looking forward to the most?
I hope everyone has a great weekend!
