New Year, New Me? Not Quite Yet.

Hello Observers! The last month or so has really felt like a whirlwind for me with all the holidays. I’ve been completely out of routine, which also means completely out of routine when it comes to my writing. I hope my absence from your inbox wasn’t too noticeable, but I’m hoping to be back in a better routine this week or next, as the final events of the holiday season come to a close for me.

However, the craziness of the season has got me thinking, what’s the big deal really?

We all know New Year’s to be a time that feels bubbly and fun, or perhaps strange and full of pressure as we turn the corner on one year into the next. In truth, it’s just another day on the calendar, especially after the major stress of the holidays prior. We feel bad if we don’t have a full list of to do’s to start the year off, even worse if we can’t sustainably follow them, so again…what’s the big deal about it all?

What if our energy to renew and evolve came stronger at a different point in the year? What if we allowed the wintertime to be what it is, and start fresh when the world does too?

It’s no secret I enjoy my fair share of witchy related things, and I equally enjoy sharing that knowledge or interest with you all.

Astrologically speaking, the year does not renew until March. Around March 20th or 21st to be specific. This time is known as the spring equinox, where the days begin to grow longer and the flowers start to bloom and we find the world around us beginning the cycle of the seasons all over again. Not only this, but it is when the zodiac starts over, beginning in the sign of Aries, which runs from March 20th-April19th.

Aries is a fire sign that offers a lot of passion, confidence, energy and courage into the mix. Aries season is a time to feel inspired and motivated to make fresh starts and big changes. The fact that the renewal of the zodiac corresponds with the renewal of the seasons is simply no coincidence!

Take a second to think about this time of year, when we feel the energy of the sun returning, the world is defrosting and the wildlife around us is replenishing their strength and numbers. Doesn’t that usually feel like magic to you?

So why wouldn’t this be a better time to celebrate New Year’s, as it literally is renewing? The winter is a time to hibernate, rest and recharge. To renew your spirit, reflect on the past and set grounded and authentic intentions for the year ahead.

I encourage you to continue to enjoy your time of hibernation a little longer, and try not to let social media or the rest of the world make you feel poorly for it.

I think if we take away the pressure of the New Year and the holiday season, which brings a lot of mental, emotional and financial stress, we can offer ourselves a moment of reprieve during the winter season to be fully rested and ready to transform in the spring.

I have already started thinking about my new year’s intentions and what I would like to accomplish as the world wakes up again. It doesn’t mean I can’t achieve things during this time, but I know for a fact I will feel the full fire and energy of Aries season and the beginning of spring, which means I will have a lot more fire and energy to start on those big goals of mine.

In case you are curious, here is an article I found that shares the history behind the different calendars the world follows, and why things shifted to the way that they did.

I’d love to know what are some of the things you are manifesting and intending to achieve in the New Year, and also if you think you will try out this new method of celebration.

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season, and that the New Year, whenever it comes for you, is full of health, prosperity, and abundance.

See you later this week with another story to enjoy!
