The First Year of A Series of Observations

Observers, today is an incredibly special day for us to celebrate! Today marks one year since the beginning of A Series of Observations.

This has been such a special, self-exploring journey that I sometimes still believe is all a dream. I want to thank each of you from the bottom of my heart for supporting me for this long. I am so excited for the future of this blog, and although we are still quite small, I hope that we find many more Observers along the way.

Today we are going to re-explore the last year and leave you with a little surprise…so read to the end!

The day was March 17th, 2024. I was sitting in a Starbucks with one of my best friends, Megan (special shout out to her for always listening to my crazy ideas and helping me work through writer’s block), and we were both basically screaming at my computer as we worked with the finicky software that is WordPress. At least it seems finicky if you don’t really know what you’re doing, which we didn’t.

Megan had already started her own blog, which you can follow here, so she was coming in with the assistance of getting the site to look the way it does, where I had all the ideas. We enjoyed multiple cups of coffee and got distracted with chatting over and over again, but in the end, A Series of Observations was born.

Inspired by a project I wrote in college, which is also posted to the blog here; I felt as though the title resonated with a lot more than just a few words I wrote in an old notebook years ago. My writing started to resemble that of observing, and a lot of what I do write, at least topic wise, is heavily impacted by what I am feeling or experiencing. Writing felt like a safe way to observe those hard emotions or memories and turn them into something beautiful, something powerful.

Since then, I have brought to life a few different projects that a younger version of myself had the vision for. We know the crowd favorite that is “Letters to A Dying Flame.” This project has grown to have such a special place in my heart. I started it with such a generic idea that it has since evolved into something entirely different than what I thought it would be.

A mix of other people’s stories of love and large part of my own, Letters to A Dying Flame has become exactly what it sounds like. A place where I write words of hope, hopelessness, heartbreak and more, and send them into the universe so I don’t have to hold them anymore.

In those pages, I remember at least three of the great loves of my life and friendships that I have lost.

My first love, a youthful and completely naive relationship that ended in a horrible way.

My first adult love, which opened my world in ways that have forever changed me and that I experienced so many firsts with.

As well as my latest lost love, who I was still with when this blog started, and gave me a love that was more healing than he will ever know.

I won’t go tripping down memory lane right now, that is what my writing is for, but those men and the profound relationships I have had, whether they caused me great trauma or transformed me for the better, are what I owe that project to. Thanks for the inspiration boys!

Then of course, “Scenes From My False Memory.” Where I get to play with different relationships, different settings and different worlds. This was also inspired by the first A Series of Observations work, because I really liked how I had acted as the watchful narrator to the characters involved, which had little description, and then brought them together. My goal was to keep the characters as vague as possible, so that you as the reader can interchange details as you see fit while reading. Then each story ends at a point where many begin, and you continue to fantasize how the story goes.

I felt that this was a powerful exercise, pulling back as a writer to give more power to the reader, while still composing something that people would feel inspired by or attracted to reading. The stories will always surprise me, as I hope they do to you too.

For a while I even played around with more non-fiction work. Such as fashion posts and beauty related opinion articles. I still enjoy writing these, but it didn’t feel as relevant to who I wanted to be as a creator, at least on the blog. So for the time being, I will remain a creative writer here, but on socials you might see more of the other versions of me!

There has been so much happening behind the scenes as well, which won’t be shared here anytime soon, but no matter the progress that is made, page by page I continue to create.

For me, that is all that matters.

Even if in the next year we only find our little group growing by 1 or 100 Observers, it will all still have been worth it.

So thank you so much for believing in my writing, believing in me, and coming back each week to follow along.

Did you make it this far? This is where the surprise comes!

Firstly, not so much of a surprise as it is a reminder, that A Series of Observations is a cool, hip, girl that has an instagram account. I would love it if you each followed the account and shared the page, as it will help it to grow, and I am trying to make that an easier point of contact to share ideas and information with you all.

Let’s be honest, it’s also just plain fun!

Ok here is the real surprise…

To celebrate an entire year of writing for you all, I wanted to give us the opportunity to write together! There is so much that I am excited to do with this group, so please email me with interest and I’ll answer any and all questions!

My goal is to have our first group meeting on March 25th, so please get in touch with me before then! Please also be aware that everything is eastern time!

It’s intended to be a very low-key, calm environment, so think of it more like a fun open mic night with friends than it is anything super formal.

I really hope to see you there and thank you again for a fantastic first year!

Keep Observing.
